Site Selection

Abstract

Site selection for hospital, being an important issue, shall be carried out carefully considering lot of factors like availability of required size of the land; means of approach to the site; location of the site in terms of distance from main road; availability of public transportation; security measures to safeguard patients, families, personnel and the public; availability of utilities such as electricity, water, gas and sewerage; roads network in the area for easy approach to the site; environmental pollution around the site, exposure to wind and earthquake, measures of flood protection. As far as the working of land requirement is concerned, the same is calculated scientifically based on the assessment of actual spaces required for the hospital services and departments, spaces required for support services and maintenance services of hospital, future expansion plans of hospital, parking, roads, electrical sub-stations, medical gas plant rooms, laundry, kitchens and bylaws of the government or the development authorities of the city relating to total FAR allowed, set back areas required, maximum permissible land coverage and maximum permissible height of building.
