Abstract

Kijuro Shidehara was born in a wealthy farmer’s family in Matta-gun, Sakaiken (current Kadoma City) of Osaka on 11 August 1872. After graduating from the Imperial University of Tokyo with a law degree, Shidehara entered the Agriculture Ministry in 1895, and transferred to the Foreign Ministry in the following year.
