Abstract
Contralateral sublaminar approaches involving unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE) have been used recently to treat foraminal stenosis and foraminal ruptured disc herniations. The indications for lumbar contralateral sublaminar approaches include upper lumbar disc herniation, foraminal disc herniation, and foraminal ruptured disc with central disc herniation. The benefits of contralateral sublaminar approaches include the small size of laminotomy and preservation of facet joint. Also, contralateral sublaminar UBE approaches can be used to decompress both exiting nerve root as well as traversing nerve root.
The authors would like to introduce the technique of UBE contralateral sublaminar approach supplemented with surgical images and videos.
