Abstract

Recently, a significant portion of the treatment of degenerative spinal diseases has become treatable with unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE). UBE surgery shows a more magnified view compared to a microscope and has a clear-bloodless surgical field and unrestricted use of conventional surgical instruments. Far-out syndrome (FOS) is one type of lumbosacral transitional vertebrae (LSTV) and is featured by the hypertrophy of L5 transverse process and sacral ala. Therefore, the exiting L5 nerve root is compressed and the patient complains of severe radiating leg pain and tingling sensation. This chapter introduces the detailed technique of far-out syndrome decompression using UBE. We hope that surgeon will learn this technique and treat the far-out syndrome sufficiently.
