Pathway and Genomics of Immunomodulator Natural Products

Plants and Phytomolecules for Immunomodulation

Abstract

Immune dysfunction has become a major public health problem, so the search for natural products with efficacy, safety, and therapeutic effects on the host immune functions has attracted extensive attention. Several in vitro and in vivo models have been used to outline the immunomodulation effects of natural products due to their anti-inflammatory property, induction of phagocytosis, and immune cells stimulation activity. The updated research progress of immunomodulatory mechanisms of natural products was reviewed. Furthermore, several immune-related pathways, including NF-𝜅B, IL-6/JAK/STAT, MAPK, and PI3K pathways, were elucidated. It is hoped that by analyzing and summarizing the research progress of the immunomodulatory activity of phytochemicals (mainly flavonoids, isoflavones, saponins, catechins, anthocyanins, and alkaloids), a more comprehensive understanding of the immunomodulatory activity of NPs can be provided.
