Abstract

Device-assisted enteroscopy (DAE) is commonly used to diagnose and treat obscure gastrointestinal bleeding, and to diagnose small bowel tumors and inflammatory bowel disease. With the development of devices and enteroscopic techniques, the indication of DAE is expanding steadily, and DAE has been applied to various clinical settings, such as endoscopic resection of small bowel tumors, small bowel stenting due to malignant or benign obstruction, and foreign body removal from the small bowel. DAE uses unique attachment devices called an overtube and balloon that can effectively resolve the intestinal loop that occurs when the endoscope enters the small bowel.
