Surgical Pathology of the Gastrointestinal System

Abstract

Neuroendocrine neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) present a challenge to clinicians as well as to pathologists. Their nomenclature, classification, and diagnostic criteria are revamped frequently, as new knowledge emerges. This chapter covers the current knowledge on this topic, including the classification of neuroendocrine neoplasms of the luminal GIT, and describes in detail the pathophysiology, histomorphological, immunohistochemical, and molecular features of these tumors at each specific location in the GIT.
