Abstract
Japan’s government agencies have been collecting and maintaining massive volumes of data that can be described as “big data”. One of these big data initiatives is the National Database of Health Insurance Claim Information and Specified Medical Checkups of Japan (NDB), which was established by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) in 2009.
