Abstract

Post-surgical wound dehiscence is an ocular emergency that can complicate an anatomically and functionally successful corneal surgery. Most cases of wound separation occur following blunt trauma to the eye, but spontaneous dehiscence of previously approximated wound also does occur. An emergency re-suturing of the wound, with apposition of edges, should be done to preserve the visual function. Final visual outcome depends on the cause of dehiscence, the force of the dehiscing injury, involvement of intraocular structures and associated ocular morbidities.
