Abstract
This chapter explains that the estimation of derivatives by means of the classical definition of a derivative as the limit of the relation of the increment of the function to the increment of the argument while the latter increment tends to zero, can lead to errors. Suggested is to use the relation of the increment of the function to the optimal increment of the argument, rather than to a small increment. A method of calculating the optimal increment of the argument is suggested.
