Abstract
This chapter describes a new algorithm for the edge detection in 3D images. As in the 2D case, edge detection in 3D images needs a preprocessing of the image: a 3D version of the Sigma filter to reduce the Gaussian noise and the 3D version of the Extreme filter to sharpen the edges. Algorithms for the 3D Sigma filter, the 3D Extreme filter, and for the 3D edge detection are described.
