Abstract
The physics of Kondo lattice has been intensively studied and is now well established. In this chapter, we introduce Kondo physics and examine how these many-body systems can be modeled and host a rich variety of electronic properties. A Kondo insulator (KI), which is the main focus of this monograph, can also be introduced within this framework. We also introduce the topological nature of KIs, which brought a new perspective and renewed interests in the electronic structure of KIs. Finally, we review the electronic structure of prototypical candidates, SmB\(_{6}\) and YbB\(_{12}\), and examine possible topological surface states.
