Abstract
This chapter discusses the interesting role of Johor Bahru (JB) as a border city between Malaysia and Singapore as the city aspires to be a creative and cultural city in Malaysia’s southern region. Johor Bahru role’s will also be dissected against Johor state’s aspirations of developing Iskandar Malaysia. The chapter will also provide some insights on the relationship between the state, private sector and civil society in adopting the creative city strategy to regenerate downtown Johor Bahru.
