Abstract
With the advancement of technology and modern apparatus of day-to-day life, enhancing the surface property of the substrate material has taken a new shape on the edge of manufacturing. The advancements in surface coating techniques called detonation thermal spray, laser cladding, plasma spray, high velocity oxygen powder, etc. requires the transfer of molten materials during the process of deposition. These coating methods are not designed to deposit the solid metallic coating on polymeric surfaces or the composite materials. So, Cold Spray coating technique has turned much of the material industries for depositing metallic coating on polymers and composite materials. In this process, a material in the powder form is accelerated on a halt by a converging/diverging (de-Laval) nozzle at very high speed with the aid of a high-pressure coaxial carrier gas jet. The high impact causes kinetic energy to deform the particle and induces successful bonding and thus adheres to the substratum. This paper illustrates the outcome of an initial analysis of the potential of the Cold Spray coating process to provide the metallic coating for engineering applications on the non-metallic polymer surface. By spraying aluminum and tin powder particles on plastic substrate material, the analysis was conducted.
