Abstract

L-band (1–2 GHz) antenna array is designed for an operating frequency of 1.5 GHz. This paper compares the parametric performances, viz. resonant frequency, gain, half-power beamwidth, input impedance, and bandwidth of variously shaped antenna in a 2 * 2 array with an SMA connection port. The antenna shapes analyzed are rectangular, circular, and bow and tie. An optimization scheme to determine antenna parameters that could maximize antenna array efficiency is also proposed. The antenna array with circular patch antennae outperforms rectangular and bow–tie shapes.
