Abstract

This paper presents a method of multi-attribute reservoir parameter prediction by using the algorithm of minimum support optimization engine (Mulan). It can predict the target lithologies, physical properties and other characteristics by finding the minimum error of the nonlinear association of target log and seismic attributes. According to the case study of the Lower Carboniferous KT-I carbonate reservoir at the eastern margin of the North Caspian Basin, it is believed that the proposed method can effectively avoid the inherent defects of the neural network prediction method and also the instability of training results or falling into local minimum. Moreover, the method provides a higher precision of prediction and effectively discriminate the types of reservoir formation, such as oil layer, oil-water layer, water layer and dry layer. The prediction results match the reservoir distribution revealed by drilling data, and can effectively support the hydrocarbon exploration.
