Abstract
Skin cancer is rising at an alarming rate worldwide. The most common types of skin cancers, melanoma and non-melanoma are often seen in white population in the world. The geographical distribution for these cancers can be seen mainly in countries with this population. Among the non-melanoma skin cancers, basal cell carcinomas (BCC) have the highest incidence followed by squamous cell carcinomas (SCC). The incidence of melanoma is much lower than non-melanoma skin cancers but the mortality is high. Skin cancers cause a huge economic burden on the healthcare system so several countries employ public health measures for their prevention. In this chapter, we have discussed the global impact of melanoma and non-melanoma cancers along with other skin cancers. We have also discussed their etiology and strategies for prevention and treatment.
