Abstract

Though the demand of wireless application is increasing, the requirement of antenna is also increasing. So, to fulfill this requirement, we designed an antenna- an ultrawide band microstrip antenna with rectangular shaped patch and three split ring resonator (SRR) slots cut on it, and it is placed on RogerRT5880 substrate. RogerRT5880 substrate has thickness of 1.6 mm, loss tangent of 0.009, and 2.2 dielectric constant. This antenna is very small in size having patch dimension 14 × 13.5 mm2. The designed antenna will resonate at 3.2703–4.5412 GHz and 5.7539–8.8118 GHz frequency band due to the presence of three split ring resonator slots. At these resonant frequencies, the S11 (return loss) is less than −10 dB and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) less than 2. This type of antenna is widely used in S-band/C-band/WiMAX/WLAN. The designed antenna is simulated by using CST studio suite 2014.
