Abstract

Nowadays, remote sensing and geographical information system (GIS) are effective comprehensive systemic tools for the analysis and assessment of water resources. An attempt has been made in this study to delineate groundwater potential zones through remote sensing and geographical system on the middle and lower part of the Beas River basin. The main objective of the study is to delineate different groundwater potential zones based on some selected indicators in the study area. Groundwater potential zone has been created here through the integration of thematic maps of the selected indicators using remote sensing and GIS techniques by Arc-GIS 10.1 software. Good groundwater potential zones are distributed along the river from north to southwest portion of the study area. A major portion of the study area has come out as poor or very poor groundwater potential zone. Therefore, this study can be a guideline for the exploration of groundwater in the basin area. On the other hand, this demarcation can help to make proper policy and proper plan for sustainable management of the groundwater in this area.
