Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore different behaviors of residents in open spaces in Da Nang (Vietnam); which can inform later development and improvement of local open space. Users’ behaviors were identified and categorized based on their activities in open space that were collected using place-centered behavior mapping method. The findings of the analysis showed identified problems that need to be considered during the development of open space including: (1) increasing the quantity and quality of public amenities; (2) separating entry/buffer spaces at boundary of the park from private spaces within the park; (3) providing space adjacent to the lake; (4) and removing obstacles (e.g. walls around the park) to improve the line of sight from within the park to streets outside and vice versa.
