Becoming a Malaysian Trans Man

Abstract

The Epilogue revisits and augments previous discussions on the major elements that constitute the becomings of Malaysian trans men, namely gender identities, engagements with society, Gender Dysphoria, medical transitioning and faith negotiations. The becomings of trans men are reconsidered succinctly against transgressive instances of Malaysia’s history. Invigorated by a brief assortment of hidden, silenced, overlooked, dismissed and/or condemned narratives, this Chapter reveals how diversity in its varied forms has always been a defining feature of the nation and insists that the trans man take his rightful place with pride and honour in the long historical line of Malaysian heterogeneity.

Notes

  1. 1.

See ‘Appendix 1: Designing the Research Project’ for details of my research methods and methodology.

  2. 2.

It is common practice to address a more mature woman whom one perceives to be of similar age to one’s mother as ‘makcik’.
