Abstract

Cervical laminoplasty has become a standard procedure for the posterior decompression of the cervical cord, as ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) a potential of cervical cord compression at multisegmental levels. We developed en bloc cervical laminoplasty, an open-door type procedure in 1981. The long-term (>20 years) outcome of this procedure is favorable without any major complications. However, postoperative radiculopathy, postoperative axial pain, and neurological deterioration due to the progression of OPLL must be considered after cervical laminoplasty.
