Abstract

The P system model in the area of membrane computing is known to be a convenient framework for handling problems in different areas of application. Several models of array P systems have been developed for dealing with the problem of generation of picture arrays in the area of two-dimensional picture languages. Here, we introduce an array P system which uses in its regions the rewriting rules of pure 2D context-free grammars in the (r/d) derivation mode in order to evolve array objects. We study the generative power of this new P system model by comparing it with certain other picture array generating models.
