Abstract

Diseases of the lidsĀ and adnexa is not uncommon and can present in unexpected ways to the outpatient clinic of an Ophthalmologist. Orbital involvement is rare and examination strategy is different. The obvious function of the eyelid for a layman would be the protection of the globe. While protecting the eye from too much light and injury is important, the eyelid has a big role to play in maintaining good vision by way of ensuring adequate resurfacing of the cornea with tears and maintaining the tear drainage by pumping tears out of the eye. By making the palpebral fissure into a thin slit, a near pinhole effect is produced and one can improve the vision in ametropia.
