Abstract

In this age of sub-specialization one does not normally hear about a scleral specialist! Covering about 80% of the globe surface, the sclera one would have thought would have caused more trouble than it is credited for. On the whole, the sclera appears like an inactive tissue with no major function except to protect the delicate internal layers. Sclera is not as benign as it is made out to be. Examination of sclera is not emphasised usually. For this reason diseases of the sclera especially that occurring posteriorly is missed commonly.
