Abstract

As discussed in previous chapters, traditional Chinese rhetoric and logic or the mode of argumentations were divergent inherently for its growing cultural and historical soils. It’s advisable to attach serious study to Chinese rhetoric and logic for the only existing non-Indo-European culture that preserves extensive archives for thousands of years.

    The original text: “《大学章句》一卷、《论语集注》十卷、《孟子集注》七卷 、《中庸章句》一卷通行本宋朱子撰。案, 《论语》自汉文帝时立博士, 《孟子》据赵岐题词,文帝时亦尝立博士。 以其旋罢 ,故史不载。《中庸说》二篇见《汉书·艺文志》;戴颙《中庸传》二卷。梁武帝《中庸讲疏》一卷,见《隋书·经籍志》。惟《大学》自唐以前无别行之本。 然《书录解题》载司马光有《大学广义》一卷, 《中庸广义》一卷。 已在二程以前,均不自洛闽诸儒始为表章。 特其论说之详,自二程始。定著四书之名,则自朱子始耳。 原本首《大学》、 次《论语》、次《孟子》、次《中庸》。 书肆刊本以《大学》、《中庸》篇页无多,并为一册,遂移《中庸》于《论语》前。 明代科举命题,又以作者先后,移《中庸》于《孟子》前。”.

    The parts of “Shugu” and “Dajie” were put together for both functioned as the conclusion and the part of “Dajie” in Qing Dynasty had been deleted as well.
