Abstract
This paper concentrated on analysing the settlement of adjacent buildings with shallow foundation (Uy) based on the maximum horizontal displacement of retaining wall (δmax). The Finite element method (FEM) with Hardening Soil model (HSM) were employed to predict the horizontal displacement of retaining wall and the settlement of adjacent buildings of 7 projects having deep excavation in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). Following the comparisons among the results of modeling and field measurements, a close correlation between δmax/H and Uy was proposed in term of δmax/H = -αUy, in which α was unit coefficient varying according to excavation depth, H was the excavation depth. Besides, based on allowable and limited settlement values for adjacent buildings, the allowable values of δmax were also proposed. Furthermore, to confirm the proposed results, another case of deep excavation in Hanoi City was selected for application.
