Abstract
This chapter asks if there is a sustainability problem to address and if there is, how we should conceptualise it and what exactly it has to do with higher education. In the process, we seek clear distinctions about what is and what might not be sustainable, and on the way, we do our best to imagine one or more sustainable futures. This chapter argues that sustainability might be best thought of as a process rather than as a destination but also asks if higher education has lost its way in contributing to sustainability.
