Abstract

From 1999 to 2017 ACLEDA Bank expanded exponentially. Over the past 19 years, figures show impressive advances, depth, and meaningful growth in the Cambodian market place. In addition, ALCEDA Bank also began to explore other initiatives and investments that fit their guiding ethical principles, entrepreneurial talent, and dedication to innovation and learning. Chapter 6 focuses on local ownership and governance and the formation of the ACLEDA Staff Association (ASA) and the ACLEDA Financial Trust (AFT). Discussion focuses on why and how ACLEDA planned to include staff ownership as a main principle of the Bank’s foundation, and discusses the importance of Financial Trusts.

Our corporate culture is very strong to inspire staff to become an effective team. Not just to meet targets, but to develop personally to work in a team, communicate well and aspire to do a good job.

Dr. So Phonnary, Executive Vice President and Group Chief Operations Officer, ACLEDA Bank Plc.

Honesty and integrity drove the organization from the beginning. If any one step were out of line, any hint of corruption, or any doubt that the institution could not deliver, they knew it could fail. The environment was so bad at the time, but the strength of the institutional values and customer demand were the keys to ACLEDA’s success.

Claire Van der Vaeren, Former Resident Coordinator, UN Development Programme to Cambodia.

We are employees, but also owners of the bank. This makes us want to work harder, and care for each other. We will do whatever we can to see the bank succeed.

Nay Sok Samnang, Senior Vice President & Head of Administration Division, ACLEDA Bank, Plc.

ACLEDA is a beacon in Cambodia of the way things ought to be.
