Abstract
Swachh Bharat Mission mainly aims in bringing about an improvement in the quality of life in the rural areas, by promoting cleanliness and focusing on scientific solid and liquid waste management systems for overall cleanliness in the rural areas. It focuses on achieving the sixth sustainable development goals (clean water and sanitation). This paper presents one of the Swachh Bharat Mission which has been carried out in a village named Silvarpatti, Rediyarchattram Block, Dindigul District., Tamilnadu, India. The mission was related to Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and creating awareness on using toilets, sanitation and Swachh fuel. The motivation was moved toward segregating the waste and the proper usage of dustbins. The awareness generation has been done on various strategies like audio visual, wall painting, walkathon and roadshow. The main cooking fuel in the village is the agro-residue and used traditional three-stone wood stove. This increases the pollution level as well as affects the health of the rural women. The rural women have been educated on the use of energy-efficient stove. The rural youth has been trained on easy method of fabrication of the wood stove which improves their livelihood enhancement. Since the village has enough number of livestock, a PRA has been conducted on community biogas plant. The village leaders have been educated on the effective use of wasteland for grid tied solar power plant. The success stories have been reported in this paper.
