Abstract

The prime step in digitization of documents is OCR (Optical Character Recognition). Digitized documents are easier to handle. As we know that OCR is character specific, it is difficult to design a common algorithm which will identify the character irrespective of script. Hence we need to recognize the script of document before moving towards OCR. This paper mainly compare the different methods of Indian and European script identification methods based on the types of documents that is handwritten and printed. Here we have also sub categorized the methods based on classifier and level of identification which will help researchers for deciding the particular method for their work.
