Abstract
Based on the nonlinear baroclinic theory and SWASH model, this paper discusses the numerical calculation method of the wave overtopping rate for typical seadikes, and investigates the feasibility of the numerical model application. A physical experiment was carried out in a wave flume to verify the numerical adaptability. The overtopping rates of sloping seadikes under the action of different significant wave heights and average periods with different gradients of fore slope, the elevation, freeboard and width of a seadike crest were measured. The results of the physical model are compared with those of the numerical model and some existed results. The formula to calculate the overtopping rate of wide-crested seadike has been suggested for the freeboard of the dike crest, Rc approximate to zero.
