Abstract
Ischemic postconditioning refers to a episodes of brief ischemia and reperfusion applied after reperfusion. In contrast to the ischemic preconditioning which is conducted before the onset of ischemia, postconditioning is performed after reperfusion. This protection is characterized as a reduction of infarct size and an improvement of postischemic cardiac dysfunction.
