Abstract

Skin cancer is one of the commonest malignancies seen in humans and occurs predominantly in the Caucasian population. Exposure to UV radiation is a common etiology. This chapter will focus on primary invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) of the skin. A detailed discussion of other skin cancers (melanoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, and other rare skin tumors) is beyond the scope of this chapter. This chapter focuses on history, examination, evaluation, and management of skin cancers with an emphasis on the role of radiation.
