Abstract
Brachytherapy is an integral part of treatment in most gynaecological malignancies. As radiation oncologists, it is necessary to familiarize ourselves with the different types of applicators used, patient selection for various procedures, possible complications of the procedure, imaging used in placement of applicators and in planning and the possible research directions. This chapter will concentrate on these aspects and dwell less on topics like doses used and technical aspects of planning. The readers are requested to go through various ICRU reports pertaining to brachytherapy particularly ICRU 38 and ICRU 58 and American Brachytherapy society (ABS) guidelines to get an overall picture of those aspects.
