Abstract
The treatment goal of genu varum, genu valgum, and osteoarthritis of knee is to restore the normal mechanical axis and joint line of lower limb. The mechanical axis and anatomical axis of the lower limb can be drawn based on Paley principle. The angles can be found on tibia or femora including the LDFA, MPTA, CORA, etc. The process of treatment is the process of deformity correction after cortical osteotomy.
Different instruments can be chosen according to different surgical methods. Any time and any part we can fixed with external fixator, hybrid fixator and Ilizarov fixator can be used for acute correction and the latter can for gradual deformity correction, but plate is preferred for femoral acute correction as thicker soft tissue. Short plate can reduce the extent of incision, and combined with external frame to increase the strength of fixation. The application of internal fixation can reduce the wearing time of external fixation.
