The administrative unit of “Hancunhe village” belonged to Dongying township before the year 2000. All the former documents described the development there in the name of “Hancunhe”. Since 2000, Dongying town was renamed Hancunhe town, it is not objective and rigorous to use Hancunhe to refer to for Hancunhe village. As “Hancunhe model” is up for an academic discussion, this chapter will still used “Hancunhe” to refer to Hancunhe village. In January 2002, according to the adjustment to Fangshan district administrative divisions, the original Hancunhe town and yuegezhuang town were merged to establish Hancunhe town. The history of the original Hancunhe town is: In 1961, it was separated from Changgou people’s commune and established a Zhaogezhuang people’s commune. In 1980, it renamed as Dongying Town, and in 2000, it renamed as Hancunhe town.

To answer the call of town government and to achieve the goal of urbanization, the village encouraged villagers toregister as a permanent town residence, which two years later will automatically turned to be urban residence and enjoy urban welfare. The villagers registered as residence could still enjoy the village collective benefits. Therefore, there were three types of household registrations in the village: agriculture household registration with 827 households and 2097 people, non-agricultural household registration with 408 households and 645 people, and town household registration with102 households and 162 people.
