Abstract
Diabetes is a major noncommunicable disease, along with cancer and cardiovascular ailment, affecting millions in the developed and developing world. It is generally known to develop as a result of malfunctioned glucose homeostasis triggered by a number of genetic and nongenetic factors. This chapter deals with the basics of diabetes, its various types, and their symptoms, diagnosis, and implications. Prevention and management of diabetes have also been briefly discussed.
