Abstract

The Diaoyu Islands, known as the Senkaku Islands in Japan, are located on the edge of the continental shelf of the East China Sea to the northeast of Taiwan, China, and between long. 123° 20′–124° 40′E and lat. 25° 40′–26° 00′N. They consist of Diaoyu Island, Huangwei Islet, Chiwei Islet, Nanxiao Island, Beixiao Island, Nan Islet, Bei Islet, Fei Islet, and more than 70 reefs. The total landmass of these islands is approximately 5.69 km2.
