Abstract

This chapter outlines the procedures to utilize a set of experimentally measurable or theoretically computable thermodynamic properties such as heat capacity, mechanical bulk modulus or compressibility, and thermal expansion coefficient to construct approximate fundamental equations of thermodynamics for single-component systems. The focus is on simple systems with a brief discussion on the possible extensions to systems with stress, electric, and surface effects.
