Abstract
This chapter provides a very brief introduction to statistical thermodynamics which can be employed as the theoretical foundation and tool to connect the quantum mechanical energy states of a system or the classical microscopic interatomic interaction energies among the particles in the system and the corresponding fundamental equation of thermodynamics for the macroscopic system, from which all the macroscopic thermodynamic properties can be derived.
