The vitreoretinal surgical armamentarium has undergone tremendous advancement ever since Robert Machemer performed the first vitrectomy using a 17-gauge cutter in 1970. With the advent of the microincision vitrectomy, newer cutter designs, higher cut rates, and better illuminating systems, retinal surgery has undergone a paradigm shift. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the instruments used for posterior segment surgery in today’s era.
