Abstract

The flexural behaviour of prefabricated concrete sandwich panels made with FRP diagonal bar connectors is investigated in this paper. The results of two full-scale concrete sandwich panels that were tested under bending are presented. The experimental results are compared with numerical results generated using a finite element model developed by the authors using ABAQUS. The model accounts for cracking, tension-stiffening and the nonlinearity of concrete in compression. It is shown that the finite element model provides a reliable prediction of the partial composite behaviour of concrete sandwich panels. It is also shown that conventional stress block methods can be used to conservatively predict the failure load of concrete sandwich panels.
