Abstract

Based on the data of monthly precipitation and monthly temperature, this study analyzed the spatiotemporal characteristics of drought and flood in the Haihe River Basin. The results indicated that: (1) Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) at the annual scale and in spring and summer all showed a trend of drought. The trend of SPEI passed the 0.05 significance test only in summer. (2) According to the trends of drought and flood, the whole basin showed the trend of drought at the annual scale and in summer, the northeast and west showed the trend of drought in spring, and the central and northern parts of the basin showed the trend of wetting in autumn. (3) Results of Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis showed that the primary spatiotemporal distribution patterns of SPEI at the annual and seasonal scales are consistent, and the reverse distribution pattern was apparent between the south and north.
