Abstract

This chapter examines hybrid For-Profit and For-Purpose models, the convergence of business and philanthropic approaches to tackle social problems, and the opportunities and challenges for funding social impact. The chapter also includes valuable insights on the topics from interviewees: Christopher Thorn AM, Partner of Impact Investment, Social Finance and Philanthropy at Ernst & Young Australia (E&Y); Nigel Harris, CEO, Mater Foundation; Alex Oppes, Director of Social Ventures Australia; and Dr. Krzysztof Dembek, Lecturer, Centre for Social Impact, Swinburne University. The chapter’s Endnotes include links to tools that help organisations measure their impact and links to additional resources on impact investing.
