Abstract
Fertility declined in Japan first, followed by Korea and Taiwan. China’s fertility decline occurred at an earlier stage of development than Korea and Taiwan, which caused the problem of early aging. Korea experienced compressed urbanization and extreme concentration in the capital area. A partial relocation of capital was conducted after 2012, remaining Presidential Office and other important parts of government in Seoul. The percentage of foreigners grew faster in Korea and Taiwan than in Japan. Cross-border marriages in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan peaked in 2003–06 then decreased.
