Abstract
The water bodies, which are considered to be the lifeline for India’s livelihood and ecology, are rapidly degrading because of various socioeconomic and environmental reasons. There is an urgent need to salvage our water bodies with an involvement not only by government but also through decentralized approach involving communities, local bodies, NGOs and academia. They should be managed on basin scale with an understanding of human/technology/environment interaction of the basin.
