Abstract

This chapter establishes the link between industry fragmentation due to the adoption of subcontracting practices and its effects on productivity based on an analysis of the fieldwork results. This chapter presents verbatim quotations from the interview transcripts to explain the occurrence and meaning of the analysis results. The verbatim quotations from the interviewees further shed light on the various reasons why the multilayer subcontracting practices are prevalent in the construction industry despite its perceived limitations.
