Abstract
The generation of plastic waste has increased rapidly in the last two decades owing to urbanization, industrialization, and also due to changing consumption pattern. Efforts are being made in developing a sustainable habitat, taking care of the environmental aspects including depletion of raw materials, biodiversity, and natural hazards. In this context, a study is done to understand the effect of granulated plastic in solid concrete blocks by replacing aggregate fraction with granulated waste plastics. The variation in compressive strength and flexural strength of concrete blocks partially replaced with plastics compared to conventional solid concrete block is studied. Reasonable results are obtained for proposed blocks, when added in small percentages, indicating its suitability to be used as a construction material in earthquake-prone areas.
