In the present study, we developed an LCP-based cochlear electrode array for atraumatic deep insertion using a novel design scheme and an advanced LCP-based, microfabrication process. A tapered, multi-layer LCP substrate with 16-channel interconnection on an LCP film was successfully fabricated. Variable layers (depending on the part of the electrode array) were utilized to achieve flexibility at the tip and sufficient rigidity at the base. This design enables safer insertion with less insertion force.
